What is Botox?

Botox is the everyday name for Botulinum Toxin Type A — a protein that temporarily relaxes targeted muscles. In aesthetics it is used in small doses, injected at specific points, to soften wrinkles caused by muscle movement and to adjust the proportions of certain muscles. Strictly speaking, “Botox” is one brand's name, but in everyday speech it has come to refer to the whole group of these products.

How does Botox work?

The substance blocks the nerve signals that tell the muscle at the injection point to contract. As the muscle moves less, wrinkles caused by repeated movement — like forehead lines or crow's feet — appear softer. Jaw-slimming injections work by letting an oversized chewing muscle gradually shrink, so the lower face looks slimmer. The effect is temporary, and the body breaks the substance down on its own over time.

What can Botox treat?

  • Movement wrinkles — forehead, between the brows, crow's feet
  • Jaw slimming for a narrower lower face
  • Reducing sweat in the armpits or palms
  • Relaxing tight shoulder muscles from office syndrome, refining the shoulder line
  • Finer adjustments — such as a brow-tail lift or softening nose wrinkles — per the doctor's assessment

When do results appear, and how long do they last?

Botox does not show results immediately after injection. It generally starts working within 3–7 days and reaches full effect at around 2 weeks. Results last about 3–6 months depending on the site, the dose and each person's response — after which the muscle returns to normal function, so repeat injections are needed to maintain the effect.

What is Botox resistance, and why genuine product matters

Botox resistance is when the body builds antibodies against the substance, so injections work less well or not at all. The most-discussed risk factors are injecting too frequently, using inappropriate doses, and — above all — receiving counterfeit or split-vial product of unknown protein quality. That is why you should confirm the product is genuine and Thai FDA-approved, watch the box being opened fresh in front of you, and only ever be injected by a doctor.

Side effects to know

Common effects are needle marks, small bruises, or a tight soreness at the injection points for a few days. Technique-related side effects — a temporarily drooping eyelid or brow, an uneven smile — usually come from unsuitable placement or dosing, and gradually improve as the substance wears off. This is exactly why the doctor's skill and command of facial anatomy matter more than any promotional price.

The bottom line

Botox is fast, needs no downtime, and can be adjusted from cycle to cycle. But a natural-looking result comes from just three things: genuine product, the right dose, and the hands of a doctor who understands facial muscles.
